Illustration Friday...." Teacher"
Amongst the palms and the lush green fields,
The village teacher frowns..."Do you know the table of 6 ?"
Never mind if I do not know my tables well,
But ask me about the seasons, the birds and the trees,
And I will tell you amazing things,
That I learned in this beautiful place,
Outdoors, in the lap of nature!

Illustration Friday ...."Freeze"
Winter lakes that freeze
A shikara still goes by
Beautiful Kashmir
....haiku
An attempt at creating a haiku- A short English verse of 3 lines with a 5-7-5 syllable structure. Haikus have a more complex structure in Japanese poetry from which it originates.
Sometimes less can mean more and fewer words can describe better the scene before us. That is why I love the simple haiku. You can interpret it in so many ways.

Illustration Friday...."Carry"
Back in middle school I read this beautiful poem by Sarojini Naidu who is also known as
"The Nightingale of India"
...and here is my illustration for this delicate and lovely poem
Palanquin Bearers
Lightly, O lightly we bear her along,
She sways like a flower in the wind of our song;
She skims like a bird on the foam of a stream,
She floats like a laugh from the lips of a dream.
Gaily, O gaily we glide and we sing,
We bear her along like a pearl on a string.
Softly, O softly we bear her along,
She hangs like a star in the dew of our song;
She springs like a beam on the brow of the tide,
She falls like a tear from the eyes of a bride.
Lightly, O lightly we glide and we sing,
We bear her along like a pearl on a string.
She sways like a flower in the wind of our song;
She skims like a bird on the foam of a stream,
She floats like a laugh from the lips of a dream.
Gaily, O gaily we glide and we sing,
We bear her along like a pearl on a string.
Softly, O softly we bear her along,
She hangs like a star in the dew of our song;
She springs like a beam on the brow of the tide,
She falls like a tear from the eyes of a bride.
Lightly, O lightly we glide and we sing,
We bear her along like a pearl on a string.

Illustration Friday..."Shiny"
Shiny
On a moonless night,
Near the stream flowing by,
Something shiny caught my eye.
It was the moon in the water,
Floating softly like a silver paper,
It smiled and said giggling,
“I was so bored of just spinning,
I thought I should try some swimming”
As the water turned to a golden dawn,
And the city stirred to a new morn,
The moon jumped up and was gone.
At night by the stream quiet indeed,
May be I will catch a glimpse,
As the moon slips in like a shiny bead.

Illustration Friday..."Hitched"
I hitched a ride down memory lane,
Softly bumping along the way.
Never a hurry, nor a worry,
The sweet feeling of a lazy day.

Illustration Friday....."Puzzled"
Puzzled
I climb the spiral staircase, one step at a time,
I seem to walk in circles, morning, noon and night.
Nothing ever changes, yet nothing is the same,
So subtle are my footsteps, yet I falter again.
Peaceful is the tread, slippery is the edge,
With laughter and joy, or despair sharp as a knife,
Every step leaves me puzzled,
On the spiral staircase of life.
